Files never leave your device. How it works

How to split a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF above (or click to select).
  2. Choose how to split: page ranges (e.g. 1-5, 8, 10-15), every page, or every N pages.
  3. Click Split, then download the parts — all at once as a .zip.

Frequently asked questions

Do my files get uploaded anywhere?
No. Splitting happens entirely in your browser — your PDF never leaves your device.
How do page ranges work?
Each comma-separated group becomes its own PDF. "1-5, 8" produces two files: pages 1–5, and page 8.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Unlock it first, then split the unlocked file here.

One document, many files

Splitting a PDF is how you pull a single chapter out of a book, separate a batch scan back into individual documents, or hand out just the pages someone needs. HivePDF gives you three ways to do it — extract specific page ranges, burst every page into its own file, or cut the document into fixed-size chunks — and returns the parts as a tidy ZIP, all without uploading your file.

Three ways to split

Use page ranges like 1-5, 8, 10-15 when you know exactly which pages you want; each comma group becomes a separate PDF. Use every page to turn an N-page document into N single-page files. Use every N pages to divide a long document into equal parts. A page thumbnail strip helps you find the right numbers.

Good to know

Splitting runs locally, so even a large document stays private and the tab stays responsive. Password-protected files need to be unlocked first. Want the opposite — combining files instead? Use the Merge tool.
